Danville Captures Commissioner's Cup Championship

Danville, IL - The Danville Dashers won the FHL Commissioner's Cup Championship on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over the Berlin River Drivers before 1,154 fans, for their first championship in team history. 

Daniel Turgeon scored two goals and had two assists for the Dashers in the win as Justin Levac and Brian Soskin added helpers.

Danville Forward Gehrett Sargis was named the Most Valuable Player of the Commissioner's Cup Playoffs after recording four goals, four assists and a plus/minus of 0. Sargis recorded his fourth assist during tonight's 4-1 victory.

It is the first FHL title for the Dashers who have made a playoff appearance the last three seasons and made it to the Commissioner's Cup Finals in 2015 only to lose to the Watertown Wolves.

It is the first time in 33 years that a Danville professional hockey team has won a championship as the Danville Dashers won the Continental Hockey League title in 1984.

Danville was the top seed in the Commissioner's Cup Playoffs after finishing 39-9-4-4 to capture the regular season title with 129 points. The Dashers 129 points and 39 wins are the second-most in league history of the FHL behind New Jersey's 127 points and 40 wins in 2011-12.
