The Jim Hebermehl Memorial Award honors the memory of Jim Hebermehl, a longtime off-ice official whose dedication, professionalism, and love for the game of hockey left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Born on February 17, 1948, in Danville, Jim spent his entire life in the community he proudly called home. For 34 years, he served as an educator in the local school system, helping shape generations of students while earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike.
Jim was best known in hockey circles as a penalty box attendant for the Danville Dashers. His dedication and passion for the game were evident to all who came into contact with him. Respected by coaches, players, on-ice officials, fellow off-ice officials, and fans, Jim was known for his kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help others.
Regardless of the circumstances, Jim always conducted himself with exceptional sportsmanship and integrity. He was consistently pleasant, accommodating, and respectful, even during the most challenging situations. His character and commitment made him a valued member of the hockey community and a role model for others.
Jim was married to his wife, Pam, for 50 years. Together they raised one daughter and were blessed with two grandchildren.
Jim passed away on January 4, 2019. His legacy of kindness, dedication, professionalism, and sportsmanship lives on through this award, which recognizes individuals who embody the same values he demonstrated throughout his life and service to the game.
