Enforcers Handle Prowlers, 3-1
By Jonathan Kliment
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Enforcers entered Friday night's game with a 5-0-0-1 record against the Port Huron Prowlers on the season. This is the final weekend these two teams will meet in the regular season, and the Enforcers were looking to continue the domination they found in the series so far. The home team did just that in front of a crowd of 3,198.
The first period saw Elmira continue to push the offensive pace of the game. The Enforcers scored first as a determined Ahmed Mahfouz brought the puck in a full circle around the zone and finally charged at the net. In an act of will he shoved the puck behind Cory Simons before colliding with him.
The second period was marred by lots of back and forth, as both teams spent time goading each other. The end result was no scoring, but a power play advantage to start the final period for Elmira.
The Enforcers cashed in on the power play just a little over a minute into the third period. Mitch Atkins fired a shot that rebounded off the pads of Simons and was batted out of the air and into the net by Tyler Prendergast. With only four seconds left, Kyle Stevens passed to Brandon Vuic who buried the puck. It appeared that Troy Passingham was in line for the shutout, but Zachary Zulkanycz pounded a rebound at 19:57.
Tonight's game saw numerous penalties and a goaltender ejection, and although the season series between these two teams is over tomorrow, it seems as if their rivalry has just begun. Come watch their final match up of the season at 7:05 PM on Saturday the 23rd at First Arena.
