Enforcers Sweep Dashers

By Jonathan Kliment

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Enforcers secured nine points this weekend with a Sunday afternoon sweep of the Danville Dashers in front of 2,722 fans at First Arena.

The first period looked familiar as the Enforcers jumped out to a quick lead with Ahmed Mahfouz scoring only 32 seconds in. This was his 26th straight game that he has tallied a point. Stepan Timofeyev scored on a tic tac toe play that saw Ondrej Misovic earn his first point since coming over in a trade to the Enforcers. This was followed by a backhanded shot by Cameron Yarwood. Patrik Zilak snuck one by Nick Niedert at 14:54 to get the Dashers on the board, but the teams would head to intermission with the Enforcers holding a 3-1 lead and outshooting the Dashers, 14-5.

The second period didn’t see any scoring, but the fisticuffs increased. Brandon Vuic and Taylor Cutting followed by Ahmed Mahfouz and Dustin Henning moments later. The crowd certainly got riled up, but it wasn’t enough to change anything on the scoreboard with the Enforcers hanging on to their 3-1 lead. Their lead in shots on goal was maintained as well with a 25-17 advantage.

It took over half of the third period, but the red light special began when the Dashers opened up the scoring at 12:36 with a goal from Jared Henderson. It would then go back and forth with an Elmira goal by Glen Patterson, followed by Daniel Martin scoring to bring Danville within one. Sean Reynolds would score twice in the final two minutes, interrupted by a Taylor cutting goal in between to bring the final score of 6-4. To say Reynolds return was a success would be an understatement.

The Enforcers claimed all nine points on the weekend and now await another three-game series against the top ranked team in the FHL, the Carolina Thunderbirds. Tickets for next weekend are on sale now by calling (607) 734-PUCK (7825).
