Enforcers Wear Down Wolves
By Jonathan Kliment
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Enforcers came back to First Arena on Saturday with vengeance on their mind as they did battle with the Watertown Wolves who clawed their way to a shootout victory the night before. Tonight, the Enforcers would skate to a 7-4 victory with a solid effort in front of 3,001 fans.
Nathan Pelligra got the scoring started just past the halfway point of the first period. Not to be outdone, the Wolves scored twice with Lane King and Tyler Gjurich to give Watertown the lead at intermission.
Elmira came out strong in the second as Anton Lennartsson scored twice before the halfway mark. Yianni Liarakos was able to shove one by Troy Passingham at 11:29 to bring the Wolves back even. However, Lennartsson would waste no time putting the Enforcers back on top and cashing in on with a hat trick. Gavin Yates followed suit of his former Wolves teammate and added two goals before the end of the frame to give the Elmira a three goal lead.
Blake Scott came in to change things up in net while Watertown’s leading scorer Gjurich scored just 2:40 into the third, but that was as close as the Wolves would get. Mitch Atkins buried a dagger at 15:14 and sent Enforcers' fans home happy with a 7-4 victory.
Troy Passingham stopped 26 out of 30 shots for the win as the Enforcers gained another three points against their closest ranked opponent.
The Enforcers will battle the Wolves one final time on First Arena ice during the regular season tomorrow at 4:05 PM followed by a Skate with the Enforcers. Get your tickets now by calling (607) 734-PUCK (7825).
