FPHL Announces “The Unsportsmanlike Podcast” the Official Podcast of the FPHL


The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) will debut its official podcast, “The Unsportsmanlike Podcast,”  December of 2023.  The weekly program will feature interviews and lively conversation about league news, hot topics, and fan interaction.

“The Unsportsmanlike Podcast” will be hosted by Matty B, a popular sports podcast host based in Philadelphia. He’ll be joined by former NHL broadcasters Tom Callahan and Jim Cerny, who each work in the FPHL.

The podcast will be available on YouTube,  the official FPHL web site (https://www.federalhockey.com/), Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter (X).

The FPHL is a single-A minor professional hockey league operating in its 14th season. There are 11 teams in the league, six in the Continental Division (Baton Rouge Zydeco, Carolina Thunderbirds, Columbus River Dragons, Mississippi Sea Wolves, Port Huron Prowlers and Wytheville Blue Ridge Bobcats) and five in the Empire Division (Binghamton Black Bears, Danbury Hat Tricks, Elmira River Sharks, Motor City Rockers and Watertown Wolves).

About the hosts:

Host Matt Bednarczyk (Matty B) was born and raised in Philadelphia Pa. After a 30-year career in the US Army, he entered the sports media/podcasting profession in April 2020. Specializing in 4 for 4 Philly Sports, he brought his raw feelings and “tell it like it is” attitude talking “Philly Sports with Matty B” podcast. In just a year and a half he caught the eye of the Edge of Philly Sports, an internet-based Philadelphia sports media company. In the spring of 2022, he launched the “Phightins Pinal,” a Philadelphia Phillies postgame show on the network. It was a huge hit and led EOP to develop other postgame shows including “Clear the Ice,” a Philadelphia Flyers program developed and co-hosted by Matt. 

 

Co-host Tom Callahan has over 1,300 games of hockey broadcast experience, including five seasons with the Nashville Predators. Tom has also worked with NHL Network and ESPN Radio in addition to his own podcast and streaming endeavors. The 2022-23 FPHL Broadcaster of the Year, Tom is in his second season with the Columbus River Dragons and also calls games for the Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots and Chattahoochee Monsters in the Sunbelt Baseball League.

 

Co-host Jim Cerny is in his third decade as a sports media professional, with experience as a broadcaster, writer, editor and front office executive. Jim was the radio play by play broadcaster for the New York Islanders, Digital Content Producer for the New York Rangers and co-hosted “NHL Live” on Sirius-XM Radio He has worked for The New York Times, NHL.com and Sporting News, among other outlets, and broadcasted for two minor league baseball teams, including a stint when he was also assistant general manager for the Newark Bears. Jim is the Danbury Hat Tricks Insider, providing analysis on game broadcasts and written and video content for the team’s web site.
