By Nicholas A Moulton

Port Huron, MI, - Anthony Shrum turned aside 45 of 51 shots and the Watertown Wolves killed off all four Port Huron power plays Friday night at McMorran Place, but the Prowlers pulled away in the second period to take the opener of the Halloween weekend series, 6-1.

Port Huron struck twice in the first: Arsenii Smekhnov opened the scoring at 3:58, finishing a feed from Bryan Parsons, and Reginald Millette made it 2-0 at 11:09 with help from Bobby Price and Jamie Bucell.

Brett Lockhart stretched the lead to 3-0 at 4:40 of the second, but Donovan Powell answered on Watertown's power play at 9:29, finishing a feed from Brendan Hussey and Dean Balsamo to cut it to 3-1. The Prowlers answered with two more before the intermission — Bucell at 16:22 and Price at 17:30 — and Aidan LaValley closed out the scoring at 9:34 of the third.

Balsamo, signed by the Wolves on Thursday, picked up an assist in his first game as a Wolf. Powell's power-play goal was Watertown's only tally, and Hussey added the other assist.

MOTOR CITY ROCKERS at INDIANA SENTINELS

Sents Score Late, Win 2-1 Against Rockers

By Andy Poetzinger

Columbus, IN, - It had been 13 days since the Sentinels had gotten back on the ice for game action. After their game was cancelled last week against the Port Huron Prowlers, the Sentinels had a chance to get some unexpected rest and relaxation hoping they would be fresh for their matchup against the Motor City Rockers.

There was a good amount of intrigue heading into this game for a multitude of reasons: first inter-divisional game, new alternate jerseys, and being a first-place hockey team to name a few. Unfortunately for the Sentinels, the trend of starting slow continued and the Rockers kicked off the scoring with Cory Checco ripping a wrist shot off the inside of the far post and in to give the Rockers the lead through one.

After a sluggish first period, the Sentinels came out firing in the second. Ross Bartlett got a perfect pass from Ben Stefanini in the corner. Bartlett walked down Main Street and ripped a shot five-hole to tie the game at one. The period would finish tied at one with the Sentinels outshooting the Rockers 7-4 in the period.

The third period was a penalty filled affair with the Sentinels getting five powerplay opportunities, and Motor City getting two of their own. Neither team was able to convert on their man advantages. The Sentinels finished the game 0-for-10 on the powerplay.

When asked about the powerplay, Everett Thompson had this to say “I thought we generated a lot of good chances. I think right now we’re going through some of the struggles a young team typically does on the powerplay. We might be getting in our heads a bit.”

For the second straight game, what looked like a definite over time game ended up finishing in regulation thanks to some late game heroics. In Topeka, the Sentinels were on the wrong end and lost with .2 seconds on the clock. Tonight, Noah Hippolyte-Smith was the hero.

Ben Stefanini was able to draw a couple of players towards him and tossed a shot on net that Rockers Goaltender Jake Gwillim had trouble controlling. The rebound laid right in the slot and the man known as Hipps swatted home his first of the year, and first in his last 19 games.

“That felt amazing. Finally got to get that monkey off my back,” Hippolyte-Smith said. “We have another four or five gears we can get to. The boys need to be a bit more locked in and attentive tomorrow and we beat that team better than we did today.”

Cooper Olson picked up his first FPHL victory in the win. He made 15 saves on 16 shots to push the Sentinels to victory.

The Sentinels look to get a weekend sweep tomorrow against the Rockers wearing their one-of-a-kind Halloween themed jerseys. Make sure to get your tickets and see it all in person! If you can’t make it to the Ham, you can catch all the action on the Sentinels Hockey Network. Coverage starts with the Body Armor Pre-Game Show at 7:15 pm ET, and puck drop at 7:30 pm ET.

Rockers Fall on Last Second Goal

By Brady Beedon

Columbus, IN, The Motor City Rockers fell to the Indiana Sentinels 2-1 on Friday night.

Motor City got the scoring started when Cory Checco netted his first of the year on a shot from the left wing circle just over the mid way point into the first period.

The Rockers would carry the lead into the first intermission.

The lead would be short lived into the middle period.

Just 24 seconds into the middle frame, former Rocker Ross Bartlett found himself all alone in front of the net, leading to the game tying goal.

The rest of the second period would remain tied.

Going into the third, a slew of penalties made five-on-five hockey a rare occurrence.

After killing six penalties on the night, the game deciding goal came in the final minute, when a Ben Stefanini shot rebounded out in front, when Noah Hippolyte-Smith pushed the puck into an open net for the game-winning goal.

The loss marks the third straight for Motor City.

The two teams will tilt again Saturday night at 7:30. Coverage starts at 7pm on the Rockers Media Network.

COLUMBUS RIVER DRAGONS at MID-SOUTH MONARCHS

Monarchs’ Comeback Falls Short In Shootout

By Cole Parenti

Southaven, MS, - The Monarchs were back at the Landers for a two-game set against the Columbus River Dragons. Mid-South was looking to get back on track after dropping their last game on the road.

The first period belonged to the River Dragons, as they scored twice to take a 2-0 lead. The first goal came off the stick of Yaroslav Yevdokimov, who beat the Monarchs from the top of the slot. The next goal came from reigning FPHL MVP Tyler Barrow as Columbus carried a two-goal lead into the second period.

The second period looked like it was going to be more of the same when Kyle Moore scored to extend Columbus' lead to 3-0. Alex Storjohann scored less than a minute later, putting the River Dragons ahead 4-0.

However, the Monarchs would flip the script as Frank Trazzera scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 4-2. Mike McBride then cut the lead to one when he scored his second goal of the season. Darion Benchich would tie the game after carving through the River Dragons' defense and just squeaking the puck over the goal line.

The game remained tied through the rest of regulation and overtime, forcing a shootout. Columbus would claim the extra point thanks to shootout goals from Yevdokimov and Storjohann.

Tommy Nappier stopped 47 of the 51 shots he faced, while his counterpart, Trevor Babin, made 32 saves on 36 shots.

The Monarchs are back in action for a Halloween rematch against these same Columbus River Dragons.

Dragons Outlast Monarchs in Back-and-Forth Divisional Opener

By Devin Dobek

Southaven, MS, - The Columbus River Dragons opened divisional play with an opportunity to secure valuable early-season points in their first meeting of the year with the Mid-South Monarchs. After building a commanding 4-0 lead, the Dragons weathered a furious Monarchs comeback before ultimately prevailing in a shootout by a final score of 5-4, earning their first road victory of the 2026-27 campaign.

Columbus wasted little time establishing its presence in the opening period. Just 1:52 into the contest, Ron Jay Peeaychew collected the puck along the half wall and found Yaro Yevdokimov in the slot, where the forward finished to give the Dragons an early 1-0 advantage. Both teams traded opportunities throughout much of the frame, with Trevor Babin standing tall in his return between the pipes. Columbus struck again at 15:17 when Kyle Moore worked his way down the slot off a setup from Jack Cullen, firing a shot past Thomas Nappier on the blocker side to double the lead. The Dragons carried a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission while holding a 17-11 edge in shots.

The second period brought a dramatic shift in momentum, beginning with a pair of quick Columbus strikes. Just 1:58 into the frame, Moore found the back of the net for the second time on the night, slipping a shot through the five-hole to make it 3-0. Nineteen seconds later, Alex Storjohann capitalized on an opportunity to push the Dragons' lead to four.

From there, the physicality of divisional play took center stage, with several penalties and altercations interrupting the flow of the game. Mid-South eventually found its footing, using the home crowd's energy to fuel a four-goal response over the next 11:20. Frank Trazzera scored twice, at 5:32 and 11:11, to cut the deficit in half before the Monarchs added a pair of power-play goals from Mike McBride at 13:29 and Darion Benchich at 16:52. What had been a four-goal Columbus advantage was suddenly erased, sending both teams into the second intermission deadlocked at four. Mid-South held a narrow 29-28 advantage in shots through 40 minutes.

The third period featured a more controlled effort from Columbus, as the Dragons generated sustained offensive pressure and earned several power-play opportunities. Despite their opportunities, Nappier continued to deliver for the Monarchs, turning aside multiple quality chances to keep the game even. Mid-South, meanwhile, struggled to generate offense, going more than 11 minutes without registering a shot on goal. Neither side could find the decisive mark before the final horn, sending the contest into overtime with an additional point in the divisional standings up for grabs.

Columbus carried its momentum into the extra frame, drawing a power play and controlling much of the action. The Dragons outshot the Monarchs 9-1 in overtime, but Nappier once again kept his team alive, forcing the game to a shootout.

In the shootout, Yaroslav Yevdokimov and Alex Storjohann each converted with shots to the glove side of Nappier. Babin answered with two crucial stops at the other end, sealing the victory and securing two valuable points for Columbus in its first divisional matchup of the season.

The Dragons will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow night's rematch, as the two teams meet again at 8:00 p.m. inside the Landers Center.

BATON ROUGE KINGFISH at STOCKTON THUNDER

Stockton Thunder, first loss on home ice

By Steve McCall

Stockton, CA, The Baton Rouge Kingfish handed the Stockton Thunder its first loss on home ice with a 3-1 win Friday night in Stockton.

The win extends of pattern for Baton Rouge (4-2-0) of win two, lose two, and win two.  Stockton (2-2-1) has now lost two in a row as well.

After a scoreless first period, the Thunder's Petr Panacek jumped on a loose puck in the right wing circle and blasted his fifth goal of the season past Kingfish goaltender Ed Coffey for a 1-0 Thunder lead. Midway through the period, Kodiak Whiteduck finished off a pretty two on one from Sam Turner to finally beat William Augustine in the Stockton goal to tie the game.

Both Augustine and Coffey made several big stops to keep the game even late into the third period. But then a wrist shot from just inside the Thunder blueline from Dmitry Kuznetsov eluded Augustine giving Baton Rouge a 2-1 lead with just 2:45 left in regulation time.

With Augustine (who stopped 31 of 33 shots) on the bench, it was Coffey's turn to come up big thwarting the Thunder, and Jake Cox sealed the victory with an empty net goal with only 25 seconds left to play.

The same two teams meet Saturday night in Stockton in a 6:11 p.m. Pacific time face-off. The Thunder will be marking Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and the first 1,000 fans will receive a free Thunder Luchador mask.
