PLAYER SAFETY ANNOUNCES FINES & SUSPENSIONS FOR 11/8/24

From The FPHL Department of Player Safety

Binghamton, NY – The FPHL Department of Player Safety today have announced the following suspensions.

Port Huron Prowlers Scantlebury,  SUSPENDED
Port Huron forward Tucker Scantlebury has been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 48 in Newburgh, NY on Friday, November 8th.  FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated,  "Mr. Scantlebury delivered punches to the face of an unwilling and defenseless opponent. This is an Aggressor penalty and he will be suspended for ONE (1) GAME."

Jackson further address and earlier altercation stating, "The Game Misconduct assessed to Mr. Pickford  (#11) Hudson Valley for Third (3rd) Man-In is being rescinded as there was no fight in progress when he jumped into the fray. Although the rule reads "altercation",  the accepted interpretation of third man-in, is to apply only when a fight is in progress. He will however receive a Game Misconduct for continuing an altercation. Rule 46.5  This will be recorded and another similar infraction will make him a repeat offender.  Mr. Parsons  (#16) Port Huron will also receive a Game Misconduct under Rule 46.5 for Continuing an Altercation. This will be recorded and another similar infraction will make him a repeat offender."

Monroe Moccasins Many Guns & Motor City Msgill-Diaz,  SUSPENDED
Monroe forward Trygve Many Guns & Motor City defenseman Nicholas Magill-Diaz have each been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 49 in Fraser, MI on Friday, November 8th.  FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated,  “These two players leave the penalty bench during an altercation and get into a fight at center ice. Normally, leaving the player's bench or penalty bench to start, or enter an altercation already in progress is a six game suspension. I am waiving this suspension because both players were released by the off-ice officials. Going forward we will be issuing a directive to all off-ice officials that no penalized player(s) is/are to be released at the end of a period until directed to do so by one or both linesmen. This does not excuse both penalized players deciding to engage in a fight at center ice "other than during the periods of the game"  Rule 46.9  (this was not a result of a continuous play at the buzzer).  Both Mr. Many Guns & Mr. Magill-Diaz will each be suspended for ONE (1) GAME."

Jackson further stated, "This ugly situation should not have occurred. There are only four officials on the ice and they cannot be expected to keep 36 players safe. The league has protocols in place about teams coming onto the ice at the end of periods instead of proceeding directly to their dressing rooms. The referees tried their best to prevent the players from getting together but it was to no avail. Both coaches failed to impress upon players the importance of going straight to the locker room.  Both Head coaches have been assessed and undisclosed fine for not controlling their players at end of period."

Motor City Rockers Smith, SUSPENDED
Motor City forward  Avery Smith has been suspended for Four Games as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 49 in Fraser, MI on Friday, November 8th.  FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson states  "Mr. Smith's behavior was egregious.  He was 3rd man-in, for entering a fight already in progress. He was an Aggressor, in the sense that he did not give his opponent the ability or choice to fight, and his opponent was defenseless. Ultimately, he Sucker-Punched a vulnerable opponent in the face/head multiple times while he was already engaged with another player. He badly bloodied his opponent's face. This is a Match Penalty for Deliberate injury.  He will be suspended for FOUR (4) GAMES."

The FPHL is a Single-A Minor Professional hockey league operating in its 15th season during 2024-25.
