PLAYER SAFETY ANNOUNCES FINES & SUSPENSIONS FOR 3/15/24

From The FPHL Department of Player Safety

Binghamton, NY – The FPHL Department of Player Safety today have announced the following suspensions.

Elmira River Sharks Gjurich FINED
Elmira Head Coach Tyler Gjurich has been Fined an undisclosed amount as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 246 in Danbury, CT on Friday, March 15th.  FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated,
“Mr. Gjurich verbally abused the referee in response to his goaltender being ejected. This is unacceptable from a coach who is supposed to be in control of his bench and his own emotions. Mr. Gjurich will be fined for his actions."

Elmira River Sharks Davidson, SUSPENDED
Elmira forward Darius Davidson has been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No.  246 in Danbury, CT on Friday, March 15th.  FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated,
“This was called a match penalty because the only options available to the referees were 2 min or match. I support the match penalty but unlike other categories of match penalties where referees have discretion between match or GM, this did not rise to the level of attempted or deliberate injury. I believe that Mr. Davidson was simply trying to deliver a clean, albeit big hit. Having said that, the onus is still on the player making the hit to avoid head contact. Mr. Davidson's timing was slightly off and made contact shoulder to chin with his opponent. Mr. Davidson is suspended for ONE (1) GAME."

The FPHL is a Single-A Minor Professional hockey league operating in its 14th season during 2023-24.
