PLAYER SAFETY ANNOUNCES SUSPENSIONS & FINES FOR 3/1/25 & 3/2/25
Binghamton, NY – The FPHL Department of Player Safety today have announced the following suspensions.
Watertown Wolves Cheevers, SUSPENDED
Watertown forward Quinn Chevers has been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 295 in Watertown, NY on Sunday, March 2nd. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, "I do not feel that this incident meets the criteria of an Aggressor penalty. The aggressor penalty is to be assessed when one player clearly punishes an unwilling or unable opponent with a barrage of multiple punches. In Mr. Chevers case, he landed one punch as he was going down and attempted several others. I'm not condoning his behavior, I'm simply differentiating the nuance between an aggressor penalty and a penalty for 'Continuing an altercation". Having said that, Mr. Chevers started this altercation with an egregious slash, and refused to let up once the linesmen entered, causing the linesmen to have to roll around the ice in an effort to restrain him. This is unacceptable and very dangerous for the officials. The onus is on a player to cease his aggressiveness once on top of his opponent and the linesmen have entered the fray. This should be a Game Misconduct for Continuing an Altercation. Because of the entirety of his actions (Egregious slash, endangering his opponent and the linesmen) Mr. Chevers is suspended for ONE (1) GAME."
Athens Rock Lobsters Head Coach, Martinson Fined
Athens Head Coach Steve Martinson has been Fined an undisclosed amount as a result from his unsportsmanlike actions towards the officials during FPHL Game No. 288 in Athens, GA on Saturday March 1st. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, Mr. Martinson used language towards the officials that is considered derogatory and demeaning. Players have been suspended multiple times this season for using identical language and this should have earned him a Game misconduct under the Executive Board's 2024-25 -Slur and Lewd Gesture policy.
Note: Binghamton forward Donald Olivieri's Aggressor Game Misconduct that he was assessed during FPHL Game No. 290 in Binghamton, NY on Sunday, March 1st has been Rescinded by the Director of Player Safety. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, Although I understand the referees wanting to assess a differential because of how the fight ended, I don't believe that this meets the criteria of being an aggressor. The Binghamton player wants to win the fight and punches until both fall to the ice. As Mr. Olivieri lands on top, he uses his forearm to break his fall. This is not an aggressor penalty. If the officials feel that a player continues the altercation after the linesmen enter, then a 10 min misconduct or Game Misconduct should be used. Aggressor should be reserved for a player repeatedly delivering blows on an unwilling or unable opponent.
The FPHL is a Single-A Minor Professional hockey league operating in its 15th season during 2024-25.
