Port Huron, MI - With only an 8 point lead on the Danville Dashers for the final playoff spot, the Port Huron Prowlers got 3 points back on Saturday to avenge their loss from the night before. Matt Robertson scored with less than two minutes left in the game to give the Prowlers a 5-4 victory.
Justin Brausen opened the scoring at 3:23, followed by back-to-back goals by Dalton Jay to give Port Huron a 2-1 lead. The Dashers would switch on the offense with three unanswered goals from Nathan Campbell, Levi Armstrong, and Fred Hein to take a 4-2 lead into the locker room after the first.
Port Huron would get a spark from Austin Fetterly on a shorthanded goal that cut the Prowlers' deficit to one at just past the midway mark of the second period. At 16:43, Jay found twine again to secure a hat trick and tie the game at 4
In a game that seemed destined for overtime, things turned fortunate for Port Huron late in the third. Marvin Powell forced a Danville turnover in the neutral zone, leaving a tap pass for Jay to Robertson who found the back of the net and his name on the 1st Star of the Game.
Cory Simons made 47 saves on the evening as Danville peppered him with 51 shots. These two teams will play again tomorrow with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 PM.
