By DJ Palm
Port Huron, MI - The Carolina Thunderbirds continue to shine through with their offensive firepower which was on full display Sunday afternoon in a 5-2 victory over the Port Huron Prowlers.
Jan Salak netted the first two goals of the game within five minutes of the first period; Josh Pietrantonio and Peter Cicmanec assisted on both goals. Artur Drindrozhik sparked some life for the Prowlers with a short-handed goal with about two minutes left in the frame, but Carolina took a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
The second period was all Thunderbirds, scoring three unanswered goals. Viktor Grebennikov and Jay Croop each tallied, and Jan Salak struck again to complete his hat trick with seven seconds left to go in the frame. Carolina would have a four-goal lead going into the third.
Port Huron managed to get one back on the power play from Matyas Kasek early in the third period, but that was all the offense the Prowlers had, and would drop one at home, 5-2.
The Prowlers begin a road trip for the next five games, starting in Elmira on Friday night. Carolina will visit Watertown on Friday and Saturday, and cap off the weekend Sunday in Elmira. These two teams will play again March 1st and 2nd in Winston-Salem.
