THOR NELSON JOINS THE FPHL OFFICIATING SUPERVISORS STAFF

The Federal Prospects Hockey League has announced the hiring of Thor Nelson as the newest member of the FPHL Officiating Supervisors Staff for the upcoming 2025-26 FPHL Season.

Thor Nelson was a linesman in the National Hockey League whose career spanned nearly 20 years and over 1,000 games. Those games included the 2004 NHL All-Star Game in Minnesota and the Stanley Cup Playoffs as well as working both the 2006 and 2010 Olympics. In Torino, Nelson worked the lines for the Gold Medal Game between Finland and Sweden, alongside referee Paul Devorski and Slovakian linesman Milan Masik.  In December of 2013, The veteran linesman was sidelined with concussion-related symptoms he sustained while trying to break up a fight in Winnipeg.  Nelson retired under doctors' orders due to post-concussion syndrome.

“I had a fantastic time,” Nelson said of his 20-year NHL career. “My body said enough. There’s a wear-and-tear on your body, and the better shape you’re in, the more you can endure of that.”

Nelson has also been an officiating supervisor in the NCHC (NCAA D1) since 2022.

Thor is married to his wife Jessica and resides in Minot, N.D. The couple has four children – sons Thor and Odin and daughters Hannah and Rhone.

FPHL Director of Officiating Paul Jene stated, “Thor is going to bring even more high level knowledge and experience to the league.  We are excited to be outgrowing our competitors in every way possible and having a roster of supervisors with NHL & AHL experience sets us well ahead.  We look forward to working with Thor Nelson and welcome him to the FPHL."

The FPHL is a Single-A Minor Professional hockey league and will be entering its 16th season in the fall of 2025.
