Thunderbirds Trade Mahoney to Ice Breakers

Winston-Salem, NC - The Carolina Thunderbirds announced a trade on Tuesday that sends forward Tommy Mahoney to the Mentor Ice Breakers for future considerations.

Mahoney played in 26 games for the Thunderbirds and registered 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points. He began the season with the Watertown Wolves, where he had 2 assists in 3 games.

In a corresponding move, Peter Cicmanec has been placed on the active roster. He returns to the Thunderbirds lineup after appearing in 24 games this season where he scored 6 goals and tallied 11 assists.

Head Coach Andre Niec commented on the transaction: "We were running into a roster crunch situation again, and unfortunately this is what happens in pro hockey. Cheech (Cicmanec) coming back means we were over, and it's best to get something rather than let a guy go for free. We all wish Tommy the best of luck."

Carolina travels to Mentor and Port Huron this weekend for three games in three days on the road.

The Carolina Thunderbirds are proud members of the Federal Hockey League, now in its ninth season. The Thunderbirds are in their second season of play, looking to build on the success of their inaugural season where the team posted an 87-point season with a record of 25-24-5-2 (W-L-OTW-OTL). The Thunderbirds also set an FHL record with over 65,000 fans through the doors in their first season and six sellout crowds. Season and group tickets are on sale now by calling (336) 774-GOAL(4625).
