Wolves Lead Gives Way to Enforcers Win
By Jay Harris
Watertown, NY - It was a preview of the Commissioner's Cup Playoffs at the Watertown Municipal Arena on Friday night when the Watertown Wolves hosted the Elmira Enforcers. Unfortunately for the home team, the Enforcers came away with a 5-3 victory in front of 1,028 fans.
The Wolves were the first to light up the lamps when Anton Kalinin tipped in a shot from Aleh Shypitsyn on a pass from Lane King. Yianni Liarakos' holding penalty provided the Enforcers with the chance they needed when Mitch Atkins was able to slide one under David Otter's glove to tie the game.
Tyler Prendergast took the lead back for the Wolves and extended it with two goals in the second period. His first came less than a minute into the period, and his second was during a penalty kill for too many men on a fast break via Liarakos to go one-on-one with netminder Nick Niedert. The Enforcers turned things around midway through the frame and scored three goals to take their first lead of the night, which they held for the remainder of the game.
Kyle Stevens put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net goal at the 19:08 mark of the third period to make the final score 5-3.
The Enforcers swept the 3 Stars of the Game with Mitch Atkins, Glen Patterson, and Dmytro Babenko.
The Wolves wrap up their regular season tomorrow at Watertown Municipal Arena when they host the Port Huron Prowlers. The puck drops at 7:30 PM.
